Installing
electric fencing is very easy and straight forward. It lends itself to DIY and
the majority of people do their own installations. When thinking about doing an
install like this, it is recommended that you thoroughly research it. There are
a few things to keep in mind when achieving your goal with electric fencing.
For example, installing the wire spacing properly so that a target will hit
both the hot and ground wires to generate a shock and making absolutely sure
the live (or hot) wire touches NOTHING BUT PLASTIC. Keep in mind that the
number one failure of an electric fence is improper grounding of the system.
When
installed correctly and maintained, an electric fence is a solid choice for
many situations. We asked Bekaert Fence Pro Van Medley to share advice on
everything from powering an electric fence to tips for installation. Consider
this article your ‘Electric Fencing 101’ class.
To
start, Medley says there are three pros to building an electric fence:
It is often more economical
It can control a wide variety of livestock
It is easier to install
Once you understand the basic
concepts and how an electric fence works, it’s actually fairly simple and
doesn’t require any specialized tools to install. To put up a permanent high
tensile electrified fence, once your posts are set, you can use gripples to tension the wire
up. So you don’t need any special tensioning tools. That’s part of the desire
of an electric fence. It’s an easy fence to install.
To install an electric fence, first
plan your layout and gather materials like posts, wire, insulators, and an
energizer. Install posts around your area, attach insulators to them, then run
the wire through the insulators. Connect the wire to the energizer, which
should be near a power source.
Is it possible to install a fence yourself?
Yes You Can Install a Fence on Your Own
· Be sure and leave adequate space
between the board bottoms and the ground to prevent rot.
· It may be worthwhile to rent an
auger for the day to help stand your posts.
· Don't waste your money on pre-made fencing
panels.
